Mac Mic Land has submitted and secured validation of an outline planning application for land at Backwell, North Somerset, marking another important milestone in the continued progression of its portfolio.
The application relates to a circa 70-acre site within the Bristol and Bath Green Belt. The site has been identified within the emerging North Somerset Local Plan 2041 as part of a wider proposed allocation to the east of Backwell.
The proposals seek to create a sustainable, new neighbourhood that combines much needed family housing with supporting infrastructure, community facilities and significant green space.
The outline application includes:
- Up to 500 new homes, including affordable housing
- A local community centre incorporating a mobility hub with a mix of uses, potentially including retail, office space, healthcare provision and a care home
- The first phase of a new neighbourhood distributor road forming part of a wider strategic rail crossing that will help improve traffic conditions at Backwell Crossroads
- Approximately half of the site area will be dedicated to green space, including public open space, community allotments, play areas and extensive tree planting
- This landscape led approach integrates the development with its surroundings and delivers long term environmental benefits
Backwell has been identified as a sustainable location for future growth, benefitting from strong transport connections and proximity to existing services and facilities. The proposals have been designed to support the area's future housing requirements whilst also delivering wider benefits for both new and existing residents.
The application represents one of the largest schemes currently being progressed by Mac Mic Land's South West team and reflects the collaborative effort required to bring forward complex strategic sites through the planning process.
Richard Kelso, Michael Gooch and John-Rhys Davies have led the promotion of the site, working closely with Dan Templeton of Planning Potential and the wider consultant team in developing and submitting the application.
This latest submission continues the strong momentum being generated across both the South West region and wider Mac Mic portfolio with several further applications expected to follow in the coming months.
